Crazy Quilt Bird Pillow

I'm still impatiently waiting for Spring!  LOL!!!  I wanted Robins and I got snow!  So I'm stitching on this bird pillow thinking about Spring and when the Robins will show up in my backyard:

I have a little more work here to do on my computer and then I plan to stitch the rest of the day and watch a movie.  Maybe something that takes place in Spring!  Ha, ha, ha!

Victorian Lady Crazy Quilt Purse

I finished up my Victorian Lady Crazy Quilt Purse this morning:

I had some gorgeous vintage crocheted lace so I used that around the outside edge.  I think it finished this purse up nicely!  And I have enough left for another purse!

Crazy Quilt Bird Pillow

Okay, isn't is Spring yet?  It's snowing like crazy outside!!!  I'm waiting for Robins and instead I get snow!  What's up with that?  LOL!!!

Well, here's a touch of Spring.  A quick update on my Crazy Quilt Bird Pillow:

If I remember correctly, this block is 10 inches square.  I still have a lot of embellishing to add to it but I thought you'd all enjoy an update.  Don't you just love those colors?  And it does look like Spring!

Handmade Easter Pillows

Before I turn the computer off for the day, I thought I'd share mom's Handmade Easter Pillows:

I just love the pastel colors of Spring, don't you?

Hearts and Flowers Biscornus

For all the cross stitcher's out there, Hearts and Flowers Biscornus are now available again:

Crazy Quilt Bird Pillow

I'll do the finishing on my last purse project tomorrow but for today, I started another crazy quilt project:

I hand painted the lace pieces yesterday morning and started stitching on this earlier today.  Blues and purples are so pretty together, don't you think?  This is very Springy and I'm am ready for Spring now!

Finished Stitching Purse

I finished up the stitching on this crazy quilt purse early this morning:

I promised Kathleen that I show close ups of the silk ribbon roses.  These are not my "twist & tack" roses.  These are all worked with a few Japanese ribbon stitches and a French knot.

This purse will have a rounded bottom but like the pink I did last week:

I'll probably use lace around the outside of the rose lady purse rather than the crocheted trim that I did on this one.

Rose Purse

Here's a little update on my current crazy quilt purse with the roses:

About another 1/2 hour and I'll be done on the computer and then I'll go stitch on this some more.

They're calling for 3 to 5 inches of snow tonight.  Geez!  Isn't it Spring yet?

First Robin Of Spring

The First Robin Of Spring Counted Cross Stitch pattern is now available:

Dragonfly Purse and Eyeglass Case

I have a few finishes to share today!  First, my Hot Pink Dragonfly Purse:

I think I mentioned the other day that the dragonfly is from a vintage pendant.  I don't remember where I got it but look at it closely, it's so beautiful!

I also finished the eyeglass case for Scott's mom:

I love purple with aqua blue.  I have to do more in with these colors!

Another Purse Update

It's like Whinnie The Pooh and the blustery day outside!  Very cold, very windy and snow blowing around.  Isn't it Spring yet?   I know, I know....soon.  According to my calender, Spring starts on March 1st.  I won't have it any other way!  LOL!!!!!

Here's another update on my current purse project:

Maria asked me about my lace pieces, if I bought them that way or if I painted them.  I always paint my own lace and I do it per project, rather than painting a whole bunch in advance.  It only takes a few minutes and then I dry them in the microwave and they're ready to sew on.

Speaking of sewing, I put together my last purse and my little eye glass case yesterday.  I just have to do the hand finishing so I expect to have photos of the finished pieces for you tomorrow.

That's my news for today everyone!

Update on Purse

I did some stitching this morning so I thought I'd share an update on my latest purse:

I'm going to run my sewing machine and finish up my pink purse and my eye glass case from yesterday's post and then I'll stitch on this some more.  I love the colors in this one!

A Few Stitched Pieces

Yes, I've been stitching away the early morning hours so I thought I'd share a few of my stitched pieces today.

First, an eyeglass case that my mother in law asked me for:

And then this pretty pink Dragonfly Purse:

The dragonfly is a piece of vintage jewelry.  It's a beautiful piece and in mint condition.  Be sure to look at it closely.  Obviously, I need to sew these 2 pieces up so I'll post another photo when they're ready but I thought you'd like to see some of my latest stitched pieces.

My Easter Blessings Hanging Pillow is model for my upcoming book:

This one is so cheerful and Springy!  I for one have had enough of Winter now.  I'm ready for the Robin's to come back, the snow to melt and the grass to turn green!

Finally, I started this purse yesterday:

So that's my latest stitching!  Have a great Sunday everyone!

Student Blocks

I thought I'd share of few of my students blocks with you today.  These are from my Color and Composition Class, Lesson 2:

This block was worked by Joyce:

Look closely at beading and silk ribbon work on the ribbon behind the Irish lady.  Beautiful!  Joyce did a very nice job balancing her colors.  There's plenty of purple there to compliment the greens and be sure to look for Joyce's little spider!  Ya'll know I like my spiders!

This block belongs to Kathleen.  She did a beautiful embroidered vine over purple ric rack.  I'm not sure if Kathleen is finished with this one yet or not.  Kathleen's silk ribbon spray in the top left corner is gorgeous!

And this block is by Jane.  Jane couldn't find any purple lace to put behind the Irish Lady so she improvised and used some purple ribbon.  That's exactly what I want people to do.  Work with what you can find!  Jane did a beautiful floral vine and lovely beadwork on the lace at the top.

This is Maria's block:

Maria's embroidery and silk ribbon work is stunning.  Look closely for all the little details.  Plenty of purple to enhance the green background.

This block was worked by Julie.  She used lots of sweet little embellishments and look close at that butterfly.  It's cross stitched!  Excellent creativity!

Finally, this is the block that Cris is working on.  She did a great job with the lace behind the Irish Lady.  Cris is still working on her block so I'll post updates again when there's a few more photos to see.

In my next lesson, we're going to start working on "clustering".  Yes, we're going to be piling it on.  Lesson 4 will be released on March 17th.

Redwork Embroidery

My poor little neglected blog!  Actually, I haven't been neglecting it.  My backup battery unit went out last week and I didn't want to take a chance with my computer by having it on without the back up battery.  I bought a new one over the weekend and got it hooked up today.  Our power goes out a lot here.  We live in a very wooded area.  Anyway, things are back up and running fine now!

My latest finish is this Redwork Cat Pillow:

Several years ago, I designed a set of 4 of these pretty little kitten embroidery designs.  I thought it would be fun to use one as a focal point for a crazy quilt piece.  I've always loved the old fashioned look of outline embroidery.  In keeping with tradition, I stitched this piece in red and white and used lots of vintage mother of pearl buttons and vintage red buttons.

I've also re-released the patterns in case anyone else would like make one:

There are 4 Redwork Cat designs in this booklet and it's available at Magcloud.

In other news, Lesson 3 of my Crazy Quilt Color and Composition Classes will be available tomorrow, February 14th.  I'll have photos of my students blocks from Lesson 2 in the next couple of days.

Lesson 4 will be available on March 17th, 2013.

Waiting For Spring

We have snowflakes coming down right now that are the size of half dollars!  Okay, ya'll know that by this time of year, I'm ready and waiting for Spring!  It's really piling up fast outside.  Good thing I didn't go over to mom's like had planned.  I'll go tomorrow.

I started working on Lesson 4 of my Color and Composition Classes so I can't share the photos of that right now.  Instead, I'll share a photo of my next project:

I love pink and black together!  And I love making purses so be sure to stop back and see this when it's done!  I'll start on this over the weekend.  For now, I'm off to stitch and maybe watch a movie.  Anything to get my mind off the snow, that's piling up really fast right now!  Wait, I already mentioned that!  LOL!!!!

Shamrock Photos

As always, I put too much on my plate at one time and then I have to try to figure out how to get everything done.  I'm always off in a few different directions but I guess that's how I function so I've learned to just go with it.  I'm in the process to playing catch-up and trying to get my projects down to just 2 at any given time.  Wish me luck.

In other news, I have a helper now.  Jason Dumont has been doing the graphic work for my books and classes for awhile now and he's just officially become my assistant.  Yes, I need one.  I can't do everything.  I thought I was superwomen but I just can't be everywhere and have time to create and keep my house clean too.  So if ya'll have a free moment, please hop over to my Kitty and Me Designs Facebook page and say hello to Jason.  He will he posting there from now on.  I will still post on my personal Facebook wall.

Finally for today, I have some Shamrock photos to share with you.  My mom made these pretty door hangers from vintage images that I printed for her on fabric.  These images are all from vintage St Patricks Day greeting cards:

 Pretty St Patricks Day gifts!

Memory Quilt and Bee Purse

I did some finishing last week on a few things and thought I'd share them today.  First is my Bee Purse:

I was going to save my Bee purse for Summer but I've already had my fill of Winter so I'm using it now.  It's bright and cheery and very happy to look at!

Maybe people who see me in town with my pretty bags think I'm nuts but I don't care.  I love the pretty purses that I make.  I'm not one to stand out in a crowd but these are the exception.  They just make me feel happy.  Happy that I have the gift and ability to make them and happy because I think they're just so pretty to look at.

My other finish is this memory quilt that I made for my cousin.  This is her dad, my uncle and godfather.  Crazy quilts are a wonderful way to create a nice remembrance of someone we love who may no longer be with us except in spirit.
